[128] πΏ Ayurveda & The Modern Lens π¬
In my journey, I had an intrinsic attraction towards ancient wisdom, along with Ayurveda, which I still have, but modern neuroscience and research has overridden my primary source of knowledge. For survival, we had to rely on the dangers our parents and grandparents faced and how they evaded and solved them. This was the source of knowledge, and hence, there was a focus on respect. More respect led to more friendly interactions and the sharing of knowledge and information. Now we have better tools and frameworks for knowledge. ππ§ββοΈ
Just like the outdated MBTI, Ayurveda has a framework to help us know ourselves. π§©π§ Individuals with a constitution predominantly composed of Vata don't like cold, learn quickly, get angry quickly, and forget quickly. Kapha individuals, on the other hand, are slow to learn, slow to anger, slow to forgive, and slow to forget. π¬οΈπ₯πΏ
I remember some key takeaways, such as avoiding pulses, chickpeas, and lentils when experiencing a cold or fever, with green gram being acceptable. It's also important to avoid fried oils during inflammatory states, as per modern research. π²ππ€
In the scientific method, we keep testing results and examining the outcomes. For example, if I were to claim that the Ayurvedic lifestyle helped me, it would hold low value in research. There are many variables to consider. It could be due to vitamin deficiency or other factors. With nutrition improved and intermittent fasting, there may be less need for specific lifestyle adjustments, but the Ayurvedic framework can still provide a framework. π§ͺππ
This reminds me of scientific research where researchers have to provide free food and monitor sleep to control some variables, but there can still be lapses. ππ€π¬
Is it true? The answer depends on one's perspective:
Traditional Belief: For practitioners and believers in Ayurveda, the doshas are real and play a crucial role in health and well-being. Ayurvedic treatments often aim to balance these doshas through diet, lifestyle, herbs, and other interventions. πΏππͺ
Scientific Perspective: Modern scientific research on Ayurveda and its principles, including the doshas, is limited. While some studies have explored the potential benefits of Ayurvedic treatments, the underlying concepts of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha have not been validated in the same way that modern medical theories have. This doesn't necessarily mean they are untrue, but they haven't been extensively studied or proven by contemporary scientific standards. πππ§ͺ
Integrative Approach: Some people find value in integrating Ayurvedic principles with modern medicine. They might use Ayurveda for lifestyle and dietary guidance while relying on Western medicine for acute or specific medical issues. π€πΌπΏ
