Food isn't just sustenance. It's a marker of our cultural, regional, and familial identity. Many of our preferences and aversions stem from the regions we've grown up in and the cultural narratives we've absorbed.

Growing up in Madhya Pradesh, a central Hindi-speaking region of India, and attending school in Dubai exposed me to a rich tapestry of culinary delights and perspectives. This intermingling of diverse food cultures expanded my palette and the mental models associated with them.
[64] Balancing Taste & Health π ποΈββοΈπ₯
Once, when offered an indulgent treat from South Korea, I was told, "Sorry, it's something unhealthy." To which I responded, "Any dessert following a balanced meal of veggies, protein, and carbs is cool!" Itβs a simple glucose goddess protocol I am following effortlessly - strike a balance between taste and health, and occasionally, let your taste buds have their way. Very similar to Neyyappams of Kerala.

A recent encounter had someone inquire about the oils I use in my kitchen. While my collection includes olive, sesame, coconut, and mustard oils, it's noteworthy how personal preferences come into play. For instance, even though the strong aroma of mustard oil isn't my favorite, I've found ways to incorporate it into my diet for health reasons. Paired with broccoli, the combination yields sulforaphane, a compound with potential health benefits.
[66] Enduring Bonds & Challenges π§ ππ πͺ
I vividly recall a friend's visit to Pune around 2012, during a tumultuous phase. Open to many alternative philosophies and quite rebellious in nature, it was intriguing to see him become fiercely protective when the topic steered towards food habits and health. This goes on to show that food-related beliefs can be as deeply ingrained, if not more, than religious ones.
