[115] Navigating Dual Dimensions of Violence 🌿

S: I've been hearing about "double violence" in the context of our food choices. Can you break that down for me?

Me: Firstly, there's the direct violence to animals. In dairy, calves are often separated from their mothers so that the milk meant for the calf can be used for human consumption. This separation distresses both the calf and mother. Male calves, not needed for milk production, might end up as veal or be killed. This is the immediate and physical form of violence.

Secondly, there's violence to oneself. There's a belief that "you are what you eat." Consuming products resulting from violence or suffering might introduce negative energies into your being. By drinking milk or consuming meat, one could be internalizing the suffering inflicted upon animals. 🌌

[116] Navigating Diet and Spirituality 🌱✨

A: Can't one be spiritual while consuming non-veg?

Me: Many mystics and enlightened individuals have consumed meat. Spirituality isn't strictly about one's dietary choices, but more about the journey inward, towards a deeper understanding and connection with the universe. 🌌

Being mindful redirects our attention from mere bodily needs to our pure center, leading to the blossoming of refined qualities. The goal is to develop sensitivity and compassion towards all forms of suffering.

In situations where food and nutrition are scarce, it's impractical to resist consuming non-veg out of rigid beliefs. That's acting below animal intelligence. I remember back in December 2019, after 13 years of being vegetarian, I was close to consuming non-veg. However, after some introspection, I managed to balance my protein and calcium needs without it. πŸ’ͺπŸ₯¦
